Two Revenges in One – Part 8

In front of the main cabin was Meta Knight. He was standing as if he was waiting for Kirby. Kirby spotted him, and started running in his direction.

“Meta Knight!”

Meta Knight looked at Kirby and replied, “Hello, Kirby.”

Kirby stopped in front of him. “So, why did you call me here? And where is our food?”

“Your food is inside the main cabin.”

“Ah, thanks!” Kirby started heading towards the main cabin’s door, but he stopped when he realized Meta Knight only answered one of his questions. He turned back to him, and asked, “Wait, why did you call me here anyway? And why steal the food?”

Meta Knight was taken by surprise by Kirby’s question, and quickly replied, “It doesn’t matter. You came here for the food, right?”

“Well, yes, but not only that! And you also called these kirbies… How did you even know about them? Why bring them here?”

Meta Knight took a deep breath. “It’s complicated. What matters is that you did as I asked and now you can get your food back. So please.”

“But…”

“Just go, Kirby.”

Kirby was annoyed. He wasn’t happy at all by Meta Knight’s attitude, but he realized that he really wasn’t going to explain what exactly was going on, so he gave up, turned around, and continued walking to the main cabin’s door.

As soon as he entered the cabin, Kirby spotted his pile of food, just as he remembered. He smiled, and thought, “Yay! There it is! Just as I was getting hungry—”

However, Kirby’s thoughts were interrupted by Bandana Waddle Dee.

“OH NO!!” the Dee shouted. “RED ALERT!”

Kirby was taken by surprise, and looked at Bandana Dee. Noticing the uproar, he completely forgot about the food, and ran towards him.

“Bandana Dee! What’s going on?!”

“Yeah!” Dedede came to check in as well. “What happened?!”

“The… The ship…” Bandana Dee could barely say it. “It’s losing height!”

“What?!” Kirby shouted.

“Do you mean…” said Dedede.

“Yes!” Bandana Dee lowered his head. “It’s going down!!”

“WHAT?!” Kirby jumped in panic. “But what happened?!”

“Well…” Bandana Dee pointed at one of the monitors in front of him, which showed some graphs. “It looks like the ship’s reactor broke!”

“Did someone destroy it?!” Kirby guessed.

“But why?!” Dedede asked.

“I don’t know!!” Bandana Dee was desperate. “I…”

“Captain!”

The three were interrupted by a kirby who had just run inside: Daisy. They looked back at her.

“Captain!” she continued. “The reactor is losing energy—” As soon as she saw Kirby, Bandana Dee and King Dedede, she promptly interrupted her phrase, and looked at the three confused. “Wait, where is the captain?”

“King Dedede is!” exclaimed Bandana Dee, annoyed. “Well, sort of… Regardless! What is this about the reactor?! Tell us!”

“Ah, yeah,” Daisy started saying. “Its power source broke, and it’s rapidly losing energy. Soon the whole ship will stop flying and fall.”

“Power source?! Did you break it?!” asked Kirby.

“No! We did not! But we heard an explosion… Anyway, I came here to ask how we can recharge the reactor.”

“Recharge?”

“Yeah! All it needs is energy. Without its power source it’s not getting any new energy, but it needs to. At least…”

“Enough energy for us to land safely?”

The one who had completed Daisy’s phrase was no one other than Meta Knight. He had just entered the cabin, and stopped walking right next to them.

Daisy was surprised and happy. “That’s exactly what I was going to say! Meta Knight, do you know how we can do that?”

“Certainly. We need someone to shoot a very powerful energetic discharge at the reactor’s core. That will give us enough energy for an emergency landing.”

“Energetic discharge…” Daisy raised her wand. “Would an electric discharge from me work?”

“Beam…” Meta Knight stopped for some seconds to think. “No, not really. We need something stronger. Not exactly electric.”

“Stronger?” asked Kirby.

“Not electric?” asked Daisy.

“Maybe one of the other kirbies can help you with that, “Meta Knight suggested. “Why don’t you go ask them? They’re all outside.”

“Oh, true! We will do, thanks Meta Knight!”

With that, Kirby and Daisy ran outside, while Meta Knight, Bandana Dee and King Dedede stayed inside.

Outside the cabin, all other kirbies were around. They were grouped in each of their friend groups, and most were chatting about the wild day they had so far.

As Kirby left the main cabin, he noticed they were all immersed in different chats. But he knew there was no time to lose: he needed their attention now.

“EVERYONE!!!” Kirby shouted.

All kirbies stopped what they were doing and looked at Kirby promptly.

“We need help!” Kirby pleaded. “The ship is about to fall, and the only way to save it is to recharge its power source! And for that, we need someone who can shoot a very powerful energetic discharge…”

“Me! Me!”

Jumping enthusiastically was no one other than Luke.

“Oh, you can do that?” Kirby asked.

“Yeah!” He raised his arms, and plasma started surrounding her slowly. “I can shoot very powerful plasma shots!”

“Huh…” Kirby remembered what Meta Knight had said earlier. “We need something that is not exactly electric… Sorry.”

“B-But plasma is not electricity!” Luke said.

“Oh, it’s not?” asked Kirby. He really wasn’t sure about it.

“Well…” Luke stopped and scratched his head. “I think not, at least… I dunno really.”

“You see,” Daisy spoke up, “plasma is actually ionized gas, and often considered the fourth state of matter. It is usually an electrically quasineutral medium of unbound positive and negative particl—”

“So can it help us?” Kirby interrupted her.

“Huh… Since it’s so related to electricity… I think not.”

“Dang!” Kirby got mad. “A strong energetic discharge that is not electric?! Where are we going to find something like that?!”

Kirby started walking around, unsure what to do, while being worried about everyone inside the ship. He was the one who had brought everyone inside, so he felt partly responsible. However, he knew it would do nothing to stay there and panic, so he was trying to have another idea.

“If none of them can, I guess I will have to find another way myself…” he thought. “But Meta Knight looked so certain that someone here coul-”

“Err… Kirby?”

A shy voice interrupted Kirby’s thoughts. He looked ahead, said, “Yes?” and looked around for its source.

Zan, with his arm raised, continued, “I… I think I can do it.” He looked very scared.

“Oh, cool! What can you do?” asked Kirby.

“Well…” Zan wasn’t sure how to explain his strong power, nor did he want to.

“Kirby,” Jake spoke up, “if you really can copy so many powers like you said, I’m sure you’ve come across the strong one Zan has. Trust me, it can certainly power up a reactor, and it’s not electric. It’s pure energy.”

Kirby, hearing Jake’s explanations, knew right away what he was talking about, and got convinced. “Alright, I trust you two then. Zan, let’s go to the reactor!”

“…Ok…” Zan said, still not in the best mood.

Zan started walking, but he was taking really short steps; it was almost as if he didn’t want to go. Deep inside, he was in conflict: part of him knew he needed to go and help everyone, but the other part was afraid of what could happen if he didn’t use his power right.

Jake noticed Zan’s hesitation, so he walked towards his friend, stopped, and put his arm on his back. Zan noticed, and stopped walking, looking at Jake.

“Zan,” Jake said. “It will be alright! I know you’ve avoided your fear for so long, but this is the time to prove to yourself that your power is for good, not bad!”

Zan continued looking at Jake, who smiled at him. Zan took a brief pause and smiled back.

“Yeah…” Zan started saying. “Ok. You’re right. I will do it.”

Zan turned around, and started walking towards Kirby again. This time, however, his steps were at normal speed, contrary to before.

Kirby, who watched all that, wasn’t sure what exactly was going on, but he was happy that it had been resolved, so he said to Zan, “Alright Zan, let’s go, follow me!”

Kirby started walking forward, and Zan followed him. However, seconds after Kirby realized something, and stopped. Zan did as well.

“Wait,” Kirby said out loud, “I have no idea where this reactor is! Oops…”

“Ah,” Daisy heard Kirby and spoke up, “worry not. Just walk forward, turn to the first left, continue straight, and then go the second right. Continue and you should see a door, inside it is the reactor.”

“Oh, thanks! That will do then, c’mon Zan!” Kirby started running.

“Oh, yes!” Zan ran after him.
