The Meeting – Part 1

Tim couldn’t be more anxious; in fact he couldn’t stand still. As he walked around his house, from one corner to another, he kept wondering to himself who invited him, and who he would meet there. He had never met another kirby in his life in person, so the thought of meeting one or two really made him excited, and afraid at the same time.

“But what if I freeze when I talk to them?” he thought, still walking around. “They will think I’m a weirdo…”

These thoughts, and similar ones, persisted on his mind for a couple more minutes. He imagined himself attempting to start a conversation, but getting interrupted by another kirby every single time he started talking. He imagined himself near multiple kirbies in a circle, with him outside of it, excluded from the conversation happening in said circle. He imagined some kirbies seeing him and making fun of his appearance, as his body was mostly black. He imagined himself tripping and falling down in front of many kirbies, and they all laughing at him because of that. He imagined himself…

“Enough!!” he shouted, interrupting his own thoughts, as he stomped his right foot and threw his arms down, in an aggressive manner.

His stance changed completely. He raised his head, and his expression was now a determined one. He grabbed his red cap with both hands, and turned it backwards. “I just need to head there and see what happens! Enough with my predictions!”

He walked towards the door, and left his house, stomping. But he then stopped and looked up, and saw the dense dark green forest that surrounded the area. He could hear some buzzing of insects, and see a very shy sunshine between some of the leaves of the trees. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, and the fresh air filled his lungs, calming him down. And so he opened his eyes, and smiled.

He then remembered what he was about to do, grabbed a piece of paper he had with him, and took a quick look at it. “Yes, it’s on the other side of Green Greens,” he thought, and put the paper down. “So I can head there myself, and easily…”

And so Tim turned to his left, and started running; as he did so, he shapeshifted into a wheel, and his speed increased drastically. Leaving only dust behind, in a matter of seconds he was miles away from the forest.

As Tim travelled further and further, the scenery started changing. The dark trees started to become less common, and the ground gradually became more grassy. The sun, previously hidden behind the many trees, was now free to completely shine. He was then surrounded by a beautiful and vivid green field, filled with magenta flowers and patches of grass.

“Oh, this is wonderful!” Tim thought. Even on his wheel form, he could observe his surroundings, and was amazed with what he was seeing. So amazed, that he slowed down a bit, to admire it all better.

He noticed that not all flowers were magenta, there were light pink and violet ones as well. He also could see some butterflies flying around them: some were orange, some were red. He also saw the patches of grass, and realized that all of them were near the flowers. And he kept looking at all the details he could…

“Outta my way!!!” Tim suddenly heard.

He got startled for a second, but before he could even think of moving out of the way of whoever had told him to do so, he was hit without fail by the source of that voice. The impact made him be thrown some meters away from his original position, and he completely lost his balance, falling down. Somewhat hurt, he shapeshifted back to his kirby form, laid down, with his eyes closed. He was also coughing, since whoever hit him left a trail of smoke.

“Ahh… What… What was that?” Tim asked himself out loud, and coughed a couple more times.

“Ah, it was just me, the universe’s fastest kirby!”

“The universe’s fastest kirby?” Tim stood up slowly, dusting off the smoke from his body. “What? This can’t be true!”

“Hah, so you doubting my speed?” the voice replied back.

Tim looked around, but still couldn’t find whoever was talking to him. However, that changed in a matter of seconds, as he then saw a blue kirby with a jet-like hat rapidly heading towards his direction, leaving a trail of smoke behind. He landed right in front of Tim.

“The house of this ‘meeting’ is just up ahead,” he said, pointing towards said place. “Meet there and I will explain why I’m the fastest.” As soon as he finished, he flew back to where he was originally, yet again leaving a trail of smoke.

Coughing, Tim used all his energy to reply, “Fine! I will be there in a minute!” And so he started walking fast towards the other kirby, too tired to transform into his wheel form.

Not too far away from there, a beige kirby with a hat full of multicolored feathers could be seen flying gracefully with her long wings. She was flying slowly, looking around: she was searching for something. She then spotted a round shaped house, full of bushes surrounding it, and headed to its direction. On her way, she started to hear two faint voices that seemed to come from near it.

“I’m faster than sound!”

“That ‘s nothing. I’m faster than light!”

“You… You know that’s impossible, don’t you?”

“Not for me! Remember? I’m the universe’s fastest kirby!”

“That’s still silly, you know? You haven’t even proved you’re that fast!”

“Well, I can’t do that right n—”

“HEY!” The two were interrupted by the beige kirby, who had just caught up on them. “What are you two even arguing about?” She landed right next to them, which was next to the house she had just spotted.

“Well, he’s saying he’s faster than light…” Tim said.

But he was interrupted, “But he’s not believing in me.”

“Why would he, anyway? You’re a stupid liar, Matt!”

“Shut up, Natty! Your opinion doesn’t matter here!”

“WHAT?!” Natty’s face was bursting with anger.

Tim noticed that she was about to fly in Matt’s direction and start a fight, and he knew right away that he had to stop that from happening. Before she could even move, Tim screamed, “YOU TWO! STOP! THAT’S ENOUGH ARGUMENTS FOR TODAY, OKAY?”

Natty froze, a bit startled by the sudden shout, but quickly came back to her senses. Her first reaction was to look confused at Matt, to whom she whispered, “So who even is this friend of yours?”

“Friend? He’s not my friend,” Matt whispered back with an unamused look on his face. “I’ve literally just met him. I was just poking him for fun, heh.”

“Ah, I see. Your usual, huh,” Natty whispered back disappointed, but not surprised.

“Good, so we’re all calm now,” Tim said. Matt and Natty both stopped looking at each other, and directed their eyes to Tim instead.

“Yup. Sorry about my burst just now,” Natty said. “So, you’re here for the meeting too?”

“Yeah… I am.”

“Nice! Oh,” Natty then realized, “we haven’t even introduced each other. My name is Natty, and he’s my, err, rival, Matt. What’s your name?”

“Ah… I’m Tim.”

“Tim… I see. Nice to meet you, Tim!” Natty smiled.

“Nice to meet you too… Natty.” Tim smiled too, but timidly.

“Well I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, but in either case,” she looked at Matt, “please ignore Matt sometimes. He can be pretty… defiant.”

“I’ve noticed that already…” Tim chuckled.

“HEY!” Matt shouted, annoyed, and looked at Natty with an angry face.

“ANYWAY,” Natty continued to Tim, ignoring Matt, “do you happen to know anyone else that is coming to this meeting?”

“Nope. I don’t know anyone really.”

“Alright then. I only know Matt, and he only knows me, so I suppose we will have to meet the others when they arrive.”

“In fact, they should be on their way already, right?” Matt wondered. “We arrived early, but it’s scheduled to start soon.”

“Most likely. So let’s wait for them!” Natty arranged the grass just under her, and sat down.

“Oh… We’re just going to wait?” Tim asked.

“Nothing we can do. What did you expect from arriving early?”

“I mean… I just didn’t want to arrive late, that’s all…” Tim diverged his eyes from them, embarrassed.

“Ah, I see. Regardless, that’s all we can do, so let’s wait.”

“Yeah, it’s boring,” Matt started saying as he sat down, “but at least we arrived before all the others!”

“True…” Tim said, as he slowly sat down like the other two. “But it will just make me feel more anxious…” he thought, looking down, with a slight worried face. “Well, nothing I can do, time to wait…”
